According to current research, more than 40% of food produced in the United States goes to waste, while one in eight Americans – many of them children – experiences food insecurity. Without access to a food bank, Bucks County residents rely on Rolling Harvest Food Rescue, as well as more than 70 hunger-relief partners with whom the organization works, as a reliable source for fresh food. Since 2010, this innovative gleaning organization has been working with farmers and food producers to effectively deliver and distribute surplus fresh produce to hunger-relief sites in the area. With a small staff and more than 250 volunteers, Rolling Harvest Food Rescue conducts daily pick-ups from 43 local farms and food producers, assists with weekly distributions to more than 70 hunger relief sites, and harvests fresh food from participating farms.
